What We Do

Record Breakers

2019 will always be remembered for the epic week the club had in its bid to break the world record for the longest game of cricket.
After 168 hours and some BCC broke the previous record, set by Loughborough University Staff, in 2012 of 150 hours.
The week was a fantastic event both on the pitch and off, it was a real community feel. Everyone had so much to talk about and see, be it Wind, Rain, Sun, Fire, Bands, Food and so much more. Blunham Cricket Club set out to raise money for both the club and two charities, Mind & Sue Ryder.
They raised a massive £35,839!!!  Which means they were able to donate £7,167.80, split between both charities. A fantastic community week.
If you wanted to get involved with BCC, with fully qualified coaches then please contact Max Hurst on max.hurst12@outlook.com – all Adult and Youth enquiries can go through Max.

Fund Raisers

One of the major fundraising events took place in 1977, with the celebration of the Queens Silver Jubilee.

The 1st brick-built pavilion was built in the 1980's and sometime during the 80s, the bar came into 'being'.

In 2009 after major fundraising and campaigning, along with grants, the new play area was built. We are pleased to offer an excellent children’s play area. We have a zip wire, BMX track, along with a fantastic enclosed play area with picnic benches.

In 2010 the new pavilion was opened with our fantastic facilities that we have today. We like to re-invest in our facilities and aim to continue to keep up our high standards for all to enjoy.

In June 2010, we hosted our very first Party in The Park. What a great success this still is, eleven years later.

History
Thanks to the village people back in 1949 with the hindsight to fundraise, to secure our playing fields for our village, we now have this wonderful facility run by the village and owned by the village!
The 1st game of football was played from a Blunham men’s team in 1963. They played at the playing field from then until the 1990's. The previous team which disbanded years before, had played their matches in a field the other side of the river between Blunham and Tempsford.

Childrens Play Area
The play area at Blunham Playing Fields is a real asset to the village and was installed by Kompan and local volunteers from grants made available by Mid Beds District Council, WREN, Blunham Parish Council, The Ivel Community Trust and Harpers Nursery. In all some £51000 was raised for the new area. The area is run by the Parish Council under license from the BPFA to ensure its sustainability and is open to the public 365 days of the year. The BPFA maintain the area on behalf of the Parish Council and we work closely to ensure it remains a real asset to the village.

We are proudly home to a few local teams/groups which

Blunham Cricket Club

Blunham Youth Football Club

June 2013. Initially with 1 team at Under 12, but with volunteers and after trials, this soon became 3 teams, with the forming of younger age groups. Blunham Youth FC had been born. Youth football in Blunham and the surrounding villages had risen again!

They currently play both Saturday and Sunday mornings with age groups from under 10 to under 14, but they are always looking to give more children the opportunity to get involved in the game. As a standard chartered club, they not only have qualified coaches, but a safe place to play, learn and enjoy the game. They have already achieved so much, in a short space of time. Whatever they achieve in the future, is a bonus and will be gratefully received, with humility.

If they remain true to the club’s motto, they shouldn’t go far wrong!!

“We come not to play. We come to win. We play to the best of our ability, with full commitment by no foul means. We accept defeat graciously and remain humble when victorious”

If you or your child are interested in helping, supporting or joining Blunham Youth please contact Richard Westhead on 07544499257 who will be happy to assist. The Pavilion is open for refreshments during match days.
